Two people were seriously injured after being involved in a car crash this past Sunday morning on southbound Interstate 880 in the city of Oakland. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred April 2nd at 2:42 a.m. just north of Broadway. The identities of the drivers involved have not been disclosed.

Very few details regarding the collision were immediately available. The force of the impact caused one of the vehicles to become engulfed in flames. A total of three vehicles were involved in the collision. CHP spokesman Officer Sean Wilkenfeld stated that firefighters had to extricate one of the injured victims. That person was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland after suffering major injuries. At this time it is unclear to which hospital the other victim was taken to.

An investigation is still ongoing in order to determine all the factors that contributed to this multi-vehicle crash and to find the driver at fault. A Sigalert was issued at 2:54 a.m. due to all lanes of I-880 being blocked. They were reopened and the Sigalert was cancelled at 5:14 a.m.
